Foundations pt9 – The Revelation of Jesus
Foundations pt9—The Revelation of Jesus
[Heb 6:1-3 NASB95]
[Mat 16:13-18 NASB95]
Jesus was not a low moment. Jesus did not reassurance. The questions were not for Him. The questions are for us.
We transition in this series to the “teaching about the Christ.” Over the next few services, we are going to focus on what has been called “the four cardinal truths about Jesus.”
What does Peter’s revelation of Jesus teach us today?
Here are four things we can learn about Peter’s revelation of Jesus.
The question about the revelation of Jesus.
V. 13-14 – the people.
V. 16 – you.
You cannot live on someone else’s revelation of Jesus. It is the revelation you have that makes the difference.
The source of the revelation of Jesus.
V. 17 – not flesh, but the Father.
[Eph 1:17-18 NASB95]
We cannot make ourselves or someone else see Jesus; it is a work of God.
The results of the revelation of Jesus.
Blessed – v. 17. Note: the blessing was that Peter received revelation. However, the revelation will increase the blessings we experience.
Changed identity – v. 17-18. A new name. You will change to the level of your revelation of Jesus.
A strong church – v. 18. The church needs to be strong.
Authority on the earth – v. 19. Your revelation of Jesus will result in power over every principality and power on the earth.
How do we grow in the revelation of Jesus?
We are not told how Peter got the revelation.
[Jer 29:13 NASB95]
You will seek in:
In His word.
In prayer.
With passion.
Our foundation is Jesus, and God wants us to know Him more and experience all the results of a greater revelation.
